Gamay

Gamay is the jewel in the crown of our Estate. The vines, planted in the early 90's, are among the oldest Gamay vines in the Yarra Valley. The viticulture has been carefully managed to keep cropping levels low to maximise fruit intensity. (Gamay is heavy cropper if not carefully managed!).

Our wine lovers had this to say.....

This Yarra Valley Gamay is a delightful exploration of contrasting flavours. The journey begins on the palate with a captivating sweetness that gently caresses the senses. Hints of ripe red strawberry lollies and subtle floral notes dance gracefully, creating a harmonious and inviting entry.

As the wine evolves, a transition occurs, revealing its savoury side. The initial sweetness gracefully transforms into a nuanced tapestry of earthy, rustic, and slightly smoky undertones.

This shift is reminiscent of a walk through a wooded glen, where the aroma of fallen leaves and damp earth mingles with the forest's secrets. The finish is a testament to balance, leaving a lasting impression of satisfaction and intrigue.

The Six J's Estate Gamay wine offers a unique tasting experience, weaving together sweetness and savouriness into a truly memorable ensemble.

Our wine is sold perhalf case. Each half case contains six bottles of your chosen clone of Gamay at $30 per bottle.

At  The Six Js Estate we have three clones of Gamay.  Clone Beauj we simply refer to as Gamay Beauj.  Clone RVC12NW227 and clone 284ENTAV are named Gamay "Far" and Gamay "Close", referring to the distance of the plants from the winery.  In 2019 we made wine from both Gamay Beauj and Gamay Far.  Although one might expect these two clones to be blended, after many trial tastings and blending sessions we felt that each individual Gamay was a better wine on it's own and we made the decision to bottle the clones separately.

Both have the distinctive groovy label designed by Jeffrey.  The clone you are drinking is displayed on the left hand side of the label.
